If you have the space, we usually recommend the Large 32×24 inch board. It is easier to notice from a distance and works best outside an entrance, near a sidewalk, by a host stand, or anywhere customers pass by. The Large board also comes with a stand, which makes it more flexible if you want to move it around during the day. The Medium 24×16 inch board is better for counters, windows, smaller walls, or tighter indoor spaces. If you are mainly trying to grab attention from people walking past, Large is the safer choice.

You can use the board in covered outdoor areas, storefront entrances, patios, windows, and other protected spots. It should not be left out in heavy rain, standing water, or extreme weather. The glow is easiest to see in shaded areas, storefront windows, evening hours, and lower-light settings. In strong direct sunlight, the LED effect will be less visible, just like with most illuminated signs. For outdoor use, we recommend placing it somewhere protected but still easy for customers to see.

The board needs power for the LED glow to work. For the most stable setup, we recommend keeping it plugged in during business hours. We also include a battery power pack, so you can use the board wirelessly if you prefer. Batteries are not included, and the pack works with AA batteries. For regular use, rechargeable AA batteries are the smartest option. If the board is not connected to power, the writing will still be visible on the glass, but the LED glow effect will not be on.

The writing can smudge if it is touched directly, especially before it fully settles on the glass. For the cleanest look, write your message and let it sit for a moment before moving the board around. Try to place the board somewhere customers will see it, but not constantly touch it. If it does smudge, just wipe the surface and write the message again. That is one of the main benefits of using a reusable glass board.

Yes, other liquid chalk markers made for glass surfaces can work too. That said, our CafeBoards markers are the best option for the board because they are made to give a bright, clean glow on the glass. They also wipe off properly when used as directed, which helps keep the board looking fresh over time. If you use other markers, make sure they are erasable and meant for glass or LED writing boards. Avoid permanent markers, paint markers, or anything that is not designed to wipe clean.

The Large board includes a stand which works great in normal entrance, storefront, patio, or sidewalk setups. Like any standing sign, it should be placed on a somewhat flat and stable surface. If the area is overly windy, crowded, or exposed, we recommend placing it somewhere more protected or bringing it inside when needed. It is not meant to be left outside during storms or very heavy weather. For daily use, most businesses place it where customers can see it clearly without it being in the way.
